DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal Fillers

Wrinkles and folds in the face develop with natural aging, due to loss of skin elasticity and volume over time. The effect of gravity causes sagging of facial tissues, which deepens wrinkles in a process that is not reversible with moisturizer or other skin care products. While surgery such as a facelift or eyelid lift will certainly lift and smooth these lines, not everyone is ready for a surgical procedure. Dermal fillers offer a safe and effective option to manage the earlier stages of facial aging without surgery.

All injectable fillers used at Chandler Plastic Surgery are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating fine lines and wrinkles. Each filler has a unique formulation that is designed to treat a specific area in the face. Most fillers offer immediate results with no downtime required. Dr. Chandler performs all filler injections herself.

Juvéderm

Juvéderm Ultra XC
Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC
Juvéderm products, including Juvéderm Ultra and Ultra Plus, Voluma, Volbella and Vollure are all created with hyaluronic acid (HA), a polysaccharide (sugar) that is found naturally in the body and keeps skin soft and moisturized. Juvéderm Ultra and Ultra Plus are used to smooth mild to moderate facial lines, including nasolabial folds, and to add volume to areas that are depleted. Juvéderm products are approved for patients 21 and older.

Voluma

Juvéderm Voluma XC
As we age, the cheeks lose volume and their youthful shape tends to flatten out. Juvéderm Voluma is designed to add volume to the cheeks and to sculpt the surrounding midfacial region, resulting in a lifting effect to the cheekbone. Adding volume to the cheek may simultaneously reduce the appearance of the nasolabial folds (the wrinkles that develop from the corners of your nose to the corners of your mouth). Due to a special formulation using a higher concentration of crosslinked HA, Voluma is longer lasting than other dermal fillers and may last as long as two years before a repeat treatment is needed.

Volbella

Volbella XC
Juvéderm Volbella is a soft, smooth filler that is used to add volume to the lips, add definition to the lip borders and smooth and soften lines around the mouth. Volbella injections carry a lower risk of unexpected swelling compared to other fillers, and results last up to a year.

Vollure

Vollure XC
Juvéderm Vollure is designed to smooth moderate to severe facial lines, including the nasolabial folds. It is quite effective at treating marionette lines, the lines that develop downward from the corner of your mouth, as well as fine lines around the chin and jawline. Like Volbella, Vollure also tends to be soft and smooth. Results last for 12 to 18 months.

DERMAL FILLERS Q&A:

Are filler injections painful?
Juvéderm products come premixed with lidocaine to gently numb the treatment area with each application. Although injections are not considered painful, Dr. Chandler can add an anesthetic cream or nerve block injection to provide additional comfort.
What are the possible side effects?
Side effects after dermal filler injections are mild and normally resolve over the first 24 to 48 hours. These include slight redness, bruising, tenderness, swelling and pinpoint bleeding. Serious complications are extremely rare, including infections, nodules, asymmetry or injection of a blood vessel. Although these complications are unlikely, it is important to trust only a plastic surgeon to perform dermal filler injections, because knowledge of the intricate facial anatomy is crucial in performing the injections.
